The moment we tore open the packaging of One’s new facial paper masks, we were immediately transported to college—freshman year, to be exact. It was the nineties, mall beauty emporiums like Bath & Body Works ruled, and in our dorm, a few smells were a constant presence: ramen being one, and the scent of cucumber melon bath products being the other. The latter boasted a clean, sweet aroma that actually smelled nothing like real cucumber, but that we loved nonetheless—and still can’t get enough of. The latest beauty offering from the eco- and wallet-friendly drugstore brand known for its unfussy formulations and plastic-free packaging is a slightly grown-up version of this original fragrance in mask form. One’s cucumber aloe mask is a deeply hydrating treat and is perfectly fashioned for travel. There is one con: Those of us with wider faces and, apparently, oversized peepers could do with a bit more material on the sides and larger eye holes. But we’re willing to overlook this issue since each time we pat one onto our freakishly large face, we are reminded of our carefree, cup-o-noodle-eating youth, when well-hydrated skin was a given.
