Emma Watson sent shockwaves across the globe last summer when she shorn off her medium-length dirty-blond locks in favor of a gamine pixie cut. It was an act of rebellion, the Harry Potter star later said, revealing that she was contractually obligated to keep her hair shoulder length, in line with her alter ego, Hermione Graingers, on-screen style. In honor of the world premiere of the final film from the movie franchise based on J.K. Rowlings hit book series, Watson has gone and cut her hair again. Its more of a very short graduated bob, Watsons go-to shear genius Rodney Cutler told Style.com of the style he created for the red-carpet screening a few hours ago in an exclusive interview. Sometimes when youre growing out a short haircut its not a blank canvas, he lamented of the aftermath of a pixie. Youve got bits that are long and bits that are short, so you can leave what you like. In this case, Cutler liked a short, choppy layered look above the nape of Watsons neck and a little more length toward the front of her ears, which he styled with Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Complex and Cutler Shine Tattoo to blend everything together for a lustrous finish.
As for the styles inspiration, Cutler showed Watson a storyboard with pictures of Louise Brooks and other, similar editorial tear sheets to get her on board. My job is to just throw up ideas and create suggestions, he says humblylike, for example, taking Watsons mousy flaxen a few shades darker to a rich, golden brown, a color transformation executed by Cutler Salon color director Ben Stewart. When you have such a worldwide phenomenon haircut, its always a little bit like, Whats next? The stakes are much higher, Cutler says of the pressure to keep things interesting with Watson. This is classic but still really modern. I think we nailed it. Do you agree? Let us know below.
