Take a stroll down Maddox Street and you’ll notice a new gallery on the block; Shizaru, the brainchild of brothers Benjamin, Raphael and Daniel Khalili brothers, displays work by under-the-radar contemporary artists in cellblock-style vaults, accessible via a narrow corridor. We loved Kelly McCallum’s disconcertingly beautiful stuffed flamingos with jewel-encrusted legs, which certainly deserved to be kept under lock and key in their gothic crypt showcases. Upstairs in the gallery, the walls are emblazoned with perky phrases like this one, which stayed with us all day: “The difference between try and triumph is merely a bit of umph.” This dashing trio can do no evil.          www.shizaru.com
