NEW YORK — English gamekeepers, on the hunt in Scotland and the Duke of Windsor. That about sums up the kilts, hair-and-hide jackets and multicolored bowlers on the Rag & Bone runway for men.

The fall collection of Marcus Wainwright and David Neville merged American touches with cuts a proper English gentleman would appreciate.

On the runway Friday at New York Fashion Week was a mustard yellow bowler paired with trousers in the same color and a varsity jacket emblazoned with a large eagle patch on the back. A blue, white and red striped suit had red patches sewn at the knee.

There were tartans mixed with plaids, scarves tied at the throat and a palette of mossy greens, brick reds and a touch of bright blue.

Nearly every look included a coat, jacket or blazer, some with tweed, leather and shearling.

The show’s notes called the inspiration: “English gamekeepers, stalking in Scotland and the Duke of Windsor.”

At least two pairs of pants ended just below the knee, finished with a large button at the bottom and worn with high socks. Bowlers were in white, green, orange, red and blue.

Traditional kilts worn with waist pouches mixed earthy solids with stripes and plaids.

The designers’ notes said the looks were an “Exemplary demonstration of how to dress like an Englishman,” all shown to the heavy, dark instrumentals of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich.
